Golden Light
Sunday fades softly away on Goderich Beach.
Heat cools the Atlantic breeze;
Salt spray from the open ocean.
Palms rustle.
As the tide draws out, golden flecks light up the sand.
Light fades. Fishing boats rest.
Children’s laughter break the rhythm of the waves.
Sandy bodies. Coconut husks. Mango skin.
The horizon deepens.
Amber. Deep violet. Warm greys.
And beneath the last breath of sunlight, Sierra Leone settles into night.
God bless you Ma.
